A Block Coupling LBM Simulation of Heat Flow Spreading and Hindering in Underground Tunnels

  • In order to master laws of fire spreading when meeting combustibles and hindering when meeting obstacles during a fire disaster in underground tunnels, an approach for simulating heat flow spreading and hindering in tunnels based on the block coupling lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is put forward. This method divides the space of tunnels into relative regular blocks and the double distributed velocity-temperature LBM is adopted to simulate heat flow spreading and hindering.During simulation, combustibles are randomly scattered along tunnels and burn under certain conditions, the new generated heat flow then propagates together with old heat flow;obstacles are randomly set up along tunnels, and a heat flow hindering model is applied to study the direction and temperature change of heat flow when it encounters obstacles. The simulating result shows that a great deal of information about velocity, temperature and pressure of heat flow can be obtained and visual information about heat flow along tunnels can also be obtained, which provide a scientific basis to escape effectively from heat flow.
