Serial Design Method for Plates Based on Feature Points Mapping Relation

  • To design serial plates meeting the requirements of various fractures and also reduce the adjustment during surgery, this paper proposes a method to quickly design serial plates based on feature points mapping relation. First, based on average point cloud model of bone, a surface model is constructed. After parametric representation for the surface model, a feature model is obtained. Second, the abutted surface of the plate is reconstructed centered with characteristic curves obtained from region-of-interest on the feature model of bone. Then, the feature model of the abutted surface is established through parametric design. Finally, the mapping relation between the feature points of region-of-interest and of the abutted surface is set up. Consequently, serial plates are generated rapidly through post-processing. Taking the plate for volar distal radius and the T-plate for proximal tibia as examples, the feasibility and validity of the proposed method is verified.
