Sketch Curves Based Sculpture on 3D Models

  • To generate geometric textures on complex 3D models,a novel 3D sculpturing scheme is presented in this paper. Firstly,user-defined sketch curves are refined and the set of points that intersect the edges of the model are determined. The triangles that are crossed by these sketch curves are deleted. These triangles are subdivided with respect to the sketch curves and inserted into the original model. Then, the distance between each vertex of the model and the sketch curves is calculated efficiently. The vertices whose distances are less than a given texture width will be selected as the candidates. The displacement distances and directions of these candidate vertices are computed according to a user-specified profile function. Finally, the candidate vertices on the model are moved along the computed displacement distances and directions respectively for generating the sculpturing result.Experimental results show that the proposed scheme is convenient and efficient for 3D sculpturing operations.
