Fairing of Curves and Surfaces by Local Energy Optimization

Abstract
Curve fairing methods mainly consist of revising selected points and global optimization. Kjellander's algorithm is one of the most common methods in revision of selected points. We present a local energy optimization (LEO) approach. In the case of uniformly parametrized cubic splines, LEO improves Kjellander's algorithm and gets better fairing effect. The corresponding method of surface fairing is also offered.
