A Survey of Simplification and Multiresolution Techniques for Massive Meshes

  • The mesh simplification and multiresolution techniques are two of the most efficient approaches to improve the rendering performance,but their design and implementation for massive meshes are still very difficult.This paper first gives an introduction to the state-of-the-art of the simplification and multiresolution techniques for massive meshes.Massive meshes simplification methods based on mesh cutting,out-of-core data structures and streaming processing are then analyzed and compared.The design,construction and rendering techniques of multiresolution representation for massive meshes are also presented and compared.Finally,discussions and potential research directions are given.
