Survey on Packing Problems

Packing problems and layout design are categorized as a class of important and typical design tasks， which have been widely used in various industries，so that its solution methodology and techniques are important not only to itself，but also to other design problems．Due to its difficulties with nature of modeling and NP-completeness．although many efforts have been made for solving this class of problems，but it still draws a great attention to find new methodology to solve the problems，especially for engineering practices on complicated systems．This paper analyses the past and the present research works in this area．A new methodology has been pointed to deal with the complex packing problems by incorporate and coordinate machine intelligence with human intelligence in virtual reality environment．This may lend to other area of design automation for a reference．
