Hepatic Blood Flow Distribution and Remnant Liver Volume Estimation

  • The precise estimation of remnant liver volume is extremely important in preoperative preparation for hepatobiliary surgeries such as hepatectomy and liver transplantation.According to the clinical liver surgical methods,an algorithm for remnant liver volume estimation based on hepatic blood flow distribution was proposed.First,a three-dimensional liver model and hepatic vessel tree were build after segmenting and thinning from individual liver CT images;then the algorithm provided flexible selections of vessel branch point and number by human-computer interaction to calculate hepatic blood flow distribution and proportion of each part based on multiple background distance transformation for remnant liver volume estimation. The experiment results indicate that this algorithm has strong real-time performance of resection simulation and accuracy to provide useful data for preoperative planning and it is acceptable for clinical applications.
