Intrinsic Feature Preserved Chinese-Painting Style Rendering for 3D Models

  • To preserve intrinsic features of 3D shapes,a novel non-photorealistic rendering method of generating Chinese-painting style image from 3D shapes is presented in this paper.First, mean curvatures of surface are calculated and mapped to surface materials. The 3D model is then rendered to a texture using frame buffer object. Finally a Chinese-painting style image is created by post image processing. After calculating and non-linearly transforming the mean curvatures,a series of image processing steps are implemented in the image space based on GPU.Users can edit the painting effects in real-time by controlling the position of light and by tuning a threshold.Experimental results show that our method is efficient and robust.
