An Algorithm to Generate Selective Refinement of Arbitrary Mesh

Abstract
Based on mesh simplification method driven by L∞ error control, the algorithm uses edge contraction as down sampling method, during which the hierarchies of those edge contractions are created. While refining, the algorithm encodes the operation as a modification to the mesh and dependency relations, thus the robustness of the selective refinement results is ensured. Experiments show the efficiency and stability of this method.
