Dynamic Cloth Motion Simulation with a Novel Fast Collision Detection

  • A physically-based model for computer animation of cloth objects is presented. First the related work on elastically deformable model and collision handling is reviewed. Then an experiment system based on mass-spring model is developed, taking into account the non-elastic properties of woven fabrics and unsteady wind force. Emphasis is focused on the bottleneck of system performance——collision detection. The computational cost of simulation is reduced by applying a novel face-face collision detection approach. The result of current system is demonstrated and its further development is discussed.
