Power Delivery Network Optimization with Decoupling Capacitor Allocation Based on Heuristic Method

In this paper,an efficient heuristic method is presented to allocate decaps in the spare chip area based on power/ground network transient analysis in an area efficient way.This algorithm utilizes adjoint network method to efficiently calculate the sensitivity of objective function with respect to each decap values and uses equivalent circuit modeling technique to reduce the scale of the network which makes the whole optimization algorithm more efficient.Experimental results demonstrate that the algorithm is capable of optimizing very large scale power/ground networks.
