Abstract
This paper presents a global illumination rendering method that renders direct and indirect lighting, reflection, refraction and caustic effects simultaneously and fast.In this method, coarse voxels are used to compute low-frequency indirect lighting while fine images are used to simulate high-frequency reflection, refraction and caustic effects.Combining the sampling of the coarse voxels and the fine images, three techniques, including the generation of a deferred gathering buffer for reflective/refractive samples,a voxel-based bidirectional illumination and an adaptive multi-resolution gathering, are introduced in rendering.Compared with photon mapping and other GPU-accelerated rendering algorithms, the method in this paper simulates multiple effects with high image quality faster. For fully dynamic scenes, the rendering speed is between 10 and 30 frames per second.
