Abstract
In order to achieve the three-dimensional (3D) simulation of composite fibre winding, a program-driven method of constructing 3D large fibre winding models based on 3D model data reconstruction is put forward.First, agrid data structure is used to organize the coordinate data of control points on the centerline of a 3D model. Then, based on the cylindrical helix equation and geometric transformation, the coordinates of all the control points are generated. After that, according to the defective parameters input by the user, from the first fibre layer on the core, the locations of defects are determined layer by layer from the inside to the outside. Finally, the coordinates of the control points are modified in turn to generate a fibre winding model with defects. The method converts the complex defect computation on a conical helix into the coordinate computation on a cylindrical helix and geometric transformation. It simplifies the coordinate computation of the control points on the centerline and logical relation determination. The experimental results show that the method can be applied to the generation of the fibre winding defect model of any length with multiple defects where the accumulative axial error of one layer is no more than 1.5 times of the fibre diameter.
