A Bottom-Up Optimized Redesign for Scale-Based Product Family

  • Based on the optimization model for scale-based product family,an optimized redesign method using sensitivity analysis and fuzzy clustering analysis is proposed. The method carries out independent optimization, platform planning, instance design and scheme evaluation in a bottom-up approach.Sensitivity analysis is performed to help select the candidate platform common variables and scaling variables. Then,in order to achieve the reasonable platform sharing strategy, the change of performance, cost and constraint satisfaction among instance products caused by the sharing of design variables are clustered using fuzzy C means algorithm, with taking fuzzy percentage index to determine the best cluster number. The commonality of the product family scheme is evaluated quantitatively with non-commonality index. Finally, the efficiency and effectiveness of the method are illustrated through the redesign of an existing universal motor family.
