3D Digitization of Non-rigid Objects Using Improved Color Photometric Stereo Method

  • Non-rigid objects are deformable and have various colors, which can't be digitized with traditional photometric stereo method. To solve this problem, this paper presents a color photometric stereo method with sampling examples and color transformation. For dynamic pure colored objects, the relationship between intensities and normal vectors is constructed by color photometric stereo method using reference sphere as the example, then the 3D point clouds on the object can be calculated with the geometry constraints. To digitize double colored objects, image segmentation is used and the relationship between intensities and normal vectors is constructed for different regions respectively. For multicolored objects, the ratio of albedo of different colored parts on the object under white light is used to transform the intensities of the object into that corresponding to pure colored reference sphere and thus the object can be digitized. It is verified by the simulation and experimental results that the method proposed is simple, rapid and can digitize non-rigid objects.
