Abstract
An approach to automatically generating casting blank model from design feature model is proposed.Firstly, multiple interpretations brought about by sketches are eliminated and the features are transformed in design feature model. Then removal material bodies are incrementally extracted from the design feature model based on the design feature history and it is determined whether the removal material bodies can be cast based on the cast process knowledge base, respectively.Lastly, the dress-up features are recovered and machining allowance is generated according to the parent-child relationships among topological elements so that the blank model is achieved. The examples are demonstrated to verify the validity of the proposed method.
