Abstract
For 3D mesh models with abundant geometric details, traditional editing methods which manipulate vertex positions explicitly have an inevitable problem that geometric details can not be well-preserved during editing. In taking the joint advantages of subdivision-based space deformation and differential domain methods,a subdivision-based Poisson mesh editing approach is proposed.Firstly,a bounding mesh of the deformable model is constructed, and then the deformation control surface is obtained with the subdivision surface determined by the bounding mesh.Secondly, when the bounding mesh is modified according to the desired deformation result, the change information of the corresponding subdivision surface is transformed into the alteration of the mesh gradient field. At last, the deformed model is reconstructed from the gradient field newly obtained. The proposed deformation method is straightforward, and friendly in interaction. It possesses a multi-resolution property, and can be employed to preserve geometric details effectively.Rich deformation examples demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the method.
