An Evolutionary Computing Approach for Supporting Creative Configuration Design

  • The binary tree structure is used as the expression of mathematical functions,and crossover, mutation,arithmetical operation and selection are operated on the mathematical functions with tree structure for producing new offspring.The corresponding curves with mathematical functions will form 2D sketches in the following step.Then,after processing by computer,3D images can form many components with various shapes.The generated components and handicraft components are put together and saved in a prototype fodder base.These components are coded and then a simple genetic algorithm is executed for making different combination scheme.Due to the visual computer—aided design environment,wisdom of human designers and evolutionary computing technology are combined,various novel shape design can be generated.A reading lamp design is taken as an example for demonstrating the executing process of genetic algorithm in this paper.
