Abstract
In order to implement light-weight modeling of 3D printed objects and satisfy the mechanical properties, this paper proposes an internal supporting structure modeling method based on density awareness. Firstly, the stress distribution of 3D objects is estimated by analyzing the cross-sectional structure. Secondly, a mesh offset algorithm is proposed, which is based on Poisson Reconstruction. Then, according to the stress distribution, the internal supporting structures are parameterized with the implicit function. We could optimize the local infilling density to realize the whole design goal. Finally, a mesh surface is extracted from the assembled parametric model to represent the internal structure of the model. Experimental results illustrate that this method can generate the mesh model with gradient and smooth porous structures, avoiding possible errors from a large number of Boolean operations.
