Image Edge Sharpening Based on the Peculiarity of Human Vision System

Human Vision System is more sensitive to the abrupt and irregular changes in image regions than smooth and regular fluctuations. This peculiarity of HVS together with the statistic characteristics of image background is used to set up a dynamic threshold of edge extraction. Experiment shows that the Roberts' gradient based approach of edge sharpening introduces noise from background, while HVS approach can effectively suppress the noise.
