Designed and Implementation of Immersive Virtual Environment of the Moon Based on Chang’E-3 Data of Panoramic Camera

  • To assist lunar scientists in understanding the surrounding environment of the Chang’E-3 rover, we developed an immersive virtual environment of the Moon using data collected by Chang’E-3 panoramic camera and star catalogue, based on a quad projective stereo system. This paper introduces the design and implementation of functions, structure and building process of the moon’s immersive virtual environment system. Related key technologies are described in detail, such as the modeling authenticity, reprojection algorithm and immersive technology. This system not only has contributed heavily to the success of the Chang’E-3 mission, but also plays an import role in science outreach to the general public after the Chang’E-3 mission.
