Abstract
This paper proposes a novel multi-rail asynchronous communication channel for network on chips. With the function of self-resetting completion detection,it improves the shortcomings of low throughput and high power consumption in conventional communication channels. The application of threshold gate makes the channel element delay-insensitive.Meanwhile,by the control of automatically detecting signals of the output, the circuit can work properly. The forward transmission delay is reduced to 1.5 gate delays with the introduction of low latency transmission module and multi-rail encoding working manner makes the power consumption greatly reduced.Simulations on performance and power consumptions have been implemented under different fabrications and temperature variations. The results demonstrated that the proposed communication element can work up to 2.64 GHz with only 1.252 mW dynamic power consumption on average. Therefore,it meets the requirements of high-speed low-power applications on chip networks.
