Abstract
Designing the general layout of fractal images is a challenging task for existing fractal generating algorithms. This paper proposes a new approach, called fractal collage.Firstly, the user can visually design the general structure of a fractal collage and specify its essential details. The fractal collage is a 2D graph which consists of an array of quadrilateral sampling patches and fractal patches. Each fractal patch corresponds to a sampling patch. After the user manually specifies the dynamics of the fractal collage, each fractal patch recursively samples the collage by leveraging its associated sampling patch, followed by an image filtering operation. This scheme allows the user experiment with different initial conditions, yielding varied results that conform to the designed general structure but differ significantly in detail.Compared to previous solutions, the proposed fractal collage approach can efficiently generate aesthetically appealing fractal images.
