Automatic Feature Recognition and Model Reconstruction for Concurrent Design

  • For realizing feature-based integration of CAD/CAPP/CAM processes, an approach to recognize and extract design features is presented to facilitate the Design-For-X (DFX) evaluation and optimization in concurrent product development. The concept of generalized engineering semantic feature (GESF) is introduced to represent the generalized product information model in a simplified way. Feature recognition is fulfiled using case-by-case classification. For instance, rotational features are classified by the shape of generatrix. Based on the structure of feature tree in Pro/E software, a three-step strategy is worked out to extract the feature information of part, and rules to reconstruct it into feature information model are elaborated. In such a way, the Design-For-X prototype system is undergoing development.
