An Object-Based Approach to Pattern Representation and Design

  • An object-based data-integrated pattern representation suitable to various application fields, such as dyeing, silk fabrics, advertising design, printing, ceramics etc.is presented. Focusing on different application fields,an object named color piece is introduced to create different data views of the pattern and different design ideas are resulted.Based on this pattern representation, three operations, namely: “plus”,“minus”,and“replacement” of the object colorpiece are defined, and pattern design with process planning is achieved by imposing these three operations on color-piece.This approach facilitates the understanding and manipulation of a pattern by the designer.
