Regression Analysis and Its Application in Variational Design

By analyzing the basic features and problems existing in the process of variational design, this paper provides a method that can find out the uncertain and hidden relationship between product performance criteria and design variables through regression analysis. An example of checking whether collision would occur when the grinding head of a grinder is surface finishing a 30° tapered hole is presented to illustrate that regression analysis is an effective way that can shorten time to market and improve the quality of product development.
