Survey on 3D Reconstruction of Transparent Objects

  • 3D reconstruction of transparent objects has long been considered as a challenging problem.Different from traditional reconstruction approaches which usually assume the diffuse reflection properties of target objects, because of the complicated view dependent light effects, such as reflection and refraction etc.,between light and transparent objects,it will directly lead to failure while applying traditional reconstruction methods to transparent objects. This survey briefly introduces related works about 3D reconstruction of transparent objects. It reviews the main research works in recent years which are summarized into four categories:shape-from-X,inverse rendering, tomography, and direct ray measurements, respectively.T`he advantages and disadvantages, and various applicable environments of each category will also be analyzed and elaborated. After that,we will show current research status and trends along this direction, and then discuss and explore the possible future follow-up research ideas.
