Pen Tilt Input in Pointing and Trajectory Tasks

  • Aiming at the limitation of inferior input capacity for the pen,pen tilt input was added in pen interaction, and the pen tilt performance was investigated in pointing and trajectory tasks.First, the pointing tasks and the trajectory tasks were designed according to the characteristics of pen tilt input. Then, the pen tilt performance was investigated in the pointing and the trajectory experiments using within-subjects full factorial design with repeated measures. The results showed that the narrower tilt interval, the longer selection time was needed to accomplish the task, and the more errors were committed. There is a power exponential polynomial relationship among the selection time, the angular interval and the target tilt angle. The pen tilt performance in strip-shaped tunnels was better than that in ring-shaped tunnels for movement time and out-of-path rate. However, the pen tilt performance had no significant difference in these two types of tunnels for out-of-tilt-range rate. The completion time was verified to be in accordance with the Steering law in pen tilt trajectory tasks. Finally, the suggestion of pen tilt utilization is given, which is of guiding significance to the pen tilt interactive design for different task types in the pen-based interface.
