Two-Layer Deployable Objects Modeling Based on Scissor Structures

  • Deployable objects are extensively used in biological science, architecture, aerospace and other fields, thanks to the space saving properties. This paper proposes a method to generate deployable scissor structures for two given polygonal layers.Taking two polygons as the input,we intend to fold the two layers of polygons to the same plane as much as possible by rotating, translating and scaling each layer.During the contracting and deploying process,we ensure that the segments connecting the two layers of scissor structures follow rigid transformation. Finally,we design the joint and link structures to connect the scissor structures of different layers and generate the model that can be 3D printed in a whole piece without assembly afterwards.
