Product Information Model for Integrating Axiomatic Design with DFA

  • Based on axiomatic design theory, functional requirements decomposition and mapping into physical domain are introduced. Then the product function-structure hierarchical model and product information model of DFA are established. The latter not only describes the hierarchical structure of the product, but also illustrates the assembly relationship among various parts. By using the information model, the integration of CAD/CAE/CAPP/CAM processes can be realized. It lays the foundation for integrating the information of concurrent product development. A case study of engine reducer is presented to illustrate the generation of function tree, structure tree and assembly model and assembly correlation matrix from the product information model.
