A Survey of Cartogram

  • 摘要: Cartogram是一种通过简化和变形来突出表现地理对象的某一类或者某几类属性的表示方法,也是近年来地图学表示方法的研究热点,但已有研究较为零碎和分散.文中对Cartogram表示方法的研究现状进行了系统的梳理,首先阐述Cartogram的基本概念、发展和分类;然后按照Cartogram的类别分别详细综述线状Cartogram和面状Cartogram自动生成算法,同时总结Cartogram的评价,并给出Cartogram的5个评价指标;最后探讨并分析现有Cartogram研究存在的问题,并展望了该领域今后的发展方向.

     

    Abstract: A Cartogram is a visualization method to highlight one or more given attributes of geographic features through simplification or distortion of a map. In recent years, it has become more and more popular in the cartographic research area. But most of research results are scattered in different scientific fields, such as statistics, computer graphics and cartography. There are very few systematic summaries of Cartograms. Therefore, it is necessary to review all the researches on Cartograms. In this paper, we first introduce the concepts, classifications and evolution of Cartograms. Then, we present automatic construction methods of line Cartograms and area Cartograms according to different types. Afterwards, we summarize evaluation methods of Cartograms and provide five evaluation indexes of Cartograms. Finally, we propose challenges and future research directions of Cartograms.
