Abstract:
In this paper,a method for relief generation on curved surfaces is proposed, which compresses a given 3D model and sticks it on a curved surface closely. In the proposed method, the height fields of both a 3D model and the curved surface are first retrieved, and gradient fields are computed based on the height fields. The obtained gradient fields are then compressed using a similar method as for flat relief generation. The gradients of curved surface with relief are obtained by vector operations between the compressed gradient field of the object and the original gradient field of the surface. Finally the relief's height field is achieved by integration. The experiments show the results that the surfaces can be either concave or convex, and the relief can lie on,above or below the stitched surface.
