Abstract:
Volume visualization seeks to visually display 3D data field to allow users effectively explore the hidden geometric structures and features.It has been widely applied in many fields,like medical imaging,oil exploration,atmosphere and meteorology,scientific computing and simulation.Because of the complexities of the internal features in 3D data fields,both the data characteristics and the users should be considered to achieve highly expressive volume visualization.Perception-based volume visualization sufficiently integrates the characteristic of the perceptual and cognitional processing of human beings into the visualization pipeline,and is capable of better revealing the features.In this paper,we summarize related work on perception-based volume visualization including user-driven volume data analysis,perception-based visual design,and illustrative volume visualization.We also discuss future work of this research topic.
