Abstract:
Converting a triangular mesh model into a parametric surface model requires the prior construction of a quad layout. However, automatically generated quad layouts for complex models often fail to conform to the intended design and tend to compromise symmetry. To address these issues, a symmetry-aware interac-tive method for quad layout generation is proposed. First, the system assists the user in interactively iden-tifying symmetric structures in the model. Geodesic paths are then constructed between user-specified fea-ture points to generate layout partition curves. Finally, layout information within symmetric regions is au-tomatically replicated and completed, enabling the user to efficiently construct the overall quad layout. In addition, dedicated assisted operations are provided for topologically complex regions, such as holes and handles, to balance interaction efficiency and layout quality. Experiments on models of varying scales and structural characteristics demonstrate that the proposed method can successfully generate quad layouts that conform to user intent, preserve symmetry, and are suitable for spline fitting.
